Dr Vanessa Vallely OBE is one of the UK’s most well-connected women and a recognised voice on gender equity, career progression and leadership.
She has delivered keynotes for over 600 organisations globally, inspiring more than 50,000 women and men through conferences, leadership programmes and events.
A sought-after consultant and advisor, Vanessa works with both government bodies and organisations to help them attract, retain and develop female talent, while creating environments where women can thrive and progress.
In June 2018, she was awarded an OBE by King Charles for her contributions to women and the economy, and in 2024 she received an honorary Doctor of Science from Warwick University.
In 2008, at the peak of her 25-year career in banking and finance, Vanessa launched WeAreTheCity. Its sister organisation, WeAreTechWomen, together support over 80,000 women globally and have helped more than 250,000 women gain new skills, confidence and networks.
She is also the founder of Gender Networks which supports over 100 Employee Relationship Groups, and the co-founder of KNIT, a forum for DEI practitioners.
In 2024, Vanessa launched the UK’s first National Women in Tech Week, bringing together over 70 free events across the country.
She is also co-author of the Lovelace Report, which highlighted a £2–3.5 billion annual gap to the UK economy caused by the underdevelopment and loss of female talent in technology.
Vanessa is the founder of Rising Stars, TechWomen100, Trailblazer50, Pioneer20 and Themis20, initiatives which have collectively raised the profile of more than 2,500 individuals.
She is the author of Heels of Steel, and her second book, 404: Women Not Found, launches on 1 October 2026.

Through WeAreTheCity and WeAreTechWomen, Vanessa has built two of the UK’s most established Networks for women across business and technology.
Together, the communities support over 80,000 women globally and have helped more than 250,000 women build confidence, skills, networks and career momentum through events, leadership programmes, awards, mentoring and development opportunities. Vanessa has also built 35 industry communities to help individuals connect within sectors.
Her work has influenced not only individual careers, but also how organisations think about progression, visibility, retention and inclusive leadership.
